The Conquerors of Daroken: The Darkness

Prologue

The skies were as dark as the moonless night sky with the haze of a mist rising from the ground. As if the fires below the ground were looking for a place to escape. The surrounding scenery was that of a dismal war zone that has been at rest for ages but has not changed over time. Trees were dead much like the stale air that surrounded them. The only light that could have been seen was from a high window in a shadowy damaged castle in the distance.

The castle seemed as lifeless as the trees and shrubs lay dead around it. However, movement could be seen all around as dark mysterious figures ran about moving trees and stones to repair the walls. The ground was damp and murky. Creatures scurried from one edge of the woods to the other chasing their meals. The creatures were dark and dismal much like their surroundings. Some looked as if they have not eaten for weeks.

Lightning strikes in the sky, lighting the dark clouds as they rolled from dark cloud to dark cloud, never striking the ground under them. It was strange to see such a storm with no rain falling upon the land.

You can hear screams echoing through the halls of the dark damaged structure. There were no paintings or tapestries hanging down those dreary walls. Only cob webs in the corners and bones covering the floors. Scratches covered the walls that would send shivering images of captives being dragged down the halls to their dismal end. It was almost as if no one stayed there but the light from a window still shined. Large rats and wolves chased each other looking to make the other its meal.

A dark mist slowly rolled up the cracked and decaying stairs. Moving to the shape of each stair as it climbed, much like a water rolling over the rocks at the top of a waterfall. As it reached the upper level of the castle, it gradually reshaped itself once again. A grim and dismal figure stood there without movement except its eerie flowing dark cloak. Its eyes glowing red as freshly spilt blood and its features could not be seen in the candlelight shining off the walls. It was as if the eyes could burn deep inside of your soul if stared at it too long.

It made its way to a nearby window. As if it was waiting for something or maybe someone. It was patiently waiting for a sign. Waiting on a sign from where or whom? It just stood there waiting at the window.

The dim lit sky, the dark rolling horizon. You could now hear the howling calls of the wild beasts as the dark figure chuckles an evil, deep, and dismal chuckle.

“Time is almost upon us. He will be here soon and I will be waiting.” The figure speaks, as all you can see is the dim glowing eyes in a mist-like cloak.
